Paul Zannucci--Being a front runner is good in a short foot race but bad in a long political one. While the New York Times tried its best, but failed, on McCain, everyone is jumping on the bandwagon to attack Obama. The media outlets who were fawning over him just a couple of weeks ago are now digging up dirt at a record pace.
How this will impact Obama in the long term is unknown. Typically the frenzies only last so long. All the dirt will be dug, and the media will be forced to stop repeating the same dirt over and over again. But right now the latest national polls show that McCain has taken a lead over Obama and statewide polls show Clinton narrowing the gap in North Carolina and maintaining a strong lead in Pennsylvania. Hillary, who's husband was once dubbed the "comeback kid" is now being called the "comeback queen." All of this adds to the sort of public opinion forming conditions for Clinton that once led Obama to be considered unstoppable in this race, and with much left to be settled, it may just be the one with the last push from the media who falls into the nomination.
